Baby b’loggah

Baby Blog

I have an odd habit. Well, more than one actually, but lets not digress. Whenever I visit a new blog, I go to the archives and find the very first blog post the author wrote. Their baby steps into blogdom, you could say. I think its rather interesting to see the different ways people announce their entry into the blog world. Gives you a sense of how the blogger’s writing style has evolved too..

Am I the only one to do this?

Nah, me donts. I generally go, check out a couple of posts, and leave a comment, if the post struck a chord in me. Not been having enough time to post myself, so digging through archives, is out of the question, atleast for the time being. :)

Hey guess what?! you dont have to take the pain of goin back to muh first blog! You were one of the very few to read muh first blog and guess you will be one of the very firsts to read the blogs I would publish in the future.

So herez what I propose: Give me a progress report everytime I publish a blog and please dont tell my parents about it ;)

Very interesting ..especially the concept of how peoples writings have evolved over time, I guess apart from the “style” evolution that you mentioned, it is also an insight into how the interests of the blogger have changed over time too, especially for random blogs like ours where we post whatever comes to our fancy at that instance of time as opposed to subject specific blogs.

[iii] Ouch! Comparing yourself to Dubya? What self-loathing trip are you on!?

[Jupe] If you hadn’t evolved you could always play the ‘Hey, at least i’m consistent‘ card!

[Hifzur] Browsing random blogs is usually an exercise that I indulge in when I have nothing else to do. So the ‘have-copious-quantities-of-time-on-my-hands’ was kinda implied. But its good to know other people are not as idle as I :)

[Vignesh] Aw, I feel so special, so blessed :)

[Anirudh] Or for random blogs like ours, its an indication of how our interests remain random as ever ! Nice first post. A follower of the ‘brevity is the soul of wit‘ school of thought, it seems? Thanks!

I do the same thing. I always assume that the first blog would be an intro about them. For most it isn’t. One thing is that the first blog does not reflect their writing ability.

That’s a really interesting idea - how many of them say something like:
“er, this is my first post. No idea what I’ve got to say to the world, but here I am”
(I think I probably said something like that)
In fact, I’m going to check…. right after I see what your first post was…

[Paddy] I have a friend who extends the ‘never judge a book by its cover‘ adage to say ‘never judge a website by its homepage and a blog by its first post. They are meant to be nothing but a mere front to the extensive volumes that describe an individual.‘ Yes, my friend tends to spout philosophy at the drop of a hat, but I think he’s absolutely right on this one! So don’t be embarrassed. Its your blog after all, you should vent as you wish! :)

[Dumbs] Very true. The first blog is rarely a reflection of their writing abilities (or the lack of it in some cases). That’s kinda what I meant by the evolution of writing skills. For most its just a ‘Well, i’m here. Now what?‘ type of post. Thank you for visiting! I take it you are here from aNTi’s?

[SwissToni] You are right, most of them are indeed along the lines of ‘Hello world, i’m here. I hope i’ll say something meaningful in the coming months. Read at your own risk. Speaking of risk, my goldfish almost died cos I forgot to feed it. Damn, I better do that now! Ciao!’ Its rather fun to see how creative people get with it though! Your second comment didn’t get posted here for some reason, but thank you for attributing some style to my first post ;)

[pingoo] I’ve rarely seen an intro in the first post actually! I’ve always figured that people are pretty paranoid about their privacy, so they don’t volunteer too much info initially. For similar reasons of course, my first blog says hardly anything at all! :)

Ok ! I’ve seen intros on quite a few blogs, now, by intros I mean something like “Hi I am tina …doing final year medicine, I currently live in banglore” and not “Hi this is Ramya, my dads name is Arun …my dogs name is micky..my hair is black with some brown streaks..yada yada ..” that level of detail ! tina can be mostly a pet name so privacy is a no-worry factor…and there can be hundreds of tinas going to med school …..nyways.
Also, did u give an intro in any of ur posts, if not the first one ? atleast I din’t see that :)..not that I read all ur posts ..but then..did you ?

[Ramchi] Guess you could call it that :) Maybe it could find its way onto this list? Has some pretty funny entries on it!

[pingoo] That’s the kind of intro i’ve seen only in profile pages, never in an actual blogpost. Guess you and I are reading very different kind of blogs :)

But to answer your question, nopes, there is no hidden intro in any of my posts, so I can save you the trouble of reading all my old posts :) None of the ‘Hi, i’m Megha. I live in a red brick house with three dogs, two cats and a goldfish‘ type stuff. I live a moderately interesting life at times, but I assume nobody would be interested in knowing about it. So I instead ramble about arbit things I am thinking about.

Yup ! I know what u mean…rambling about arbit things, I prefer. Ofcourse the “livejournal” type blogs are a running detail of the daily activities like “I had two marie biscuits for lunch today”. It gets boring after a while ! unless the person has a very fascinating life which is of interest to u…like the life of a deep sea diver for a deep sea diving enthusiast ?? …nyways :).

    [Ramchi] Nice compilation! :)

[pingoo] Very true. There are very few bloggers who can make their mundane day-to-day activities seem interesting. Speaking of which, you should check out the blog I have linked on my blogroll titled ‘The Dullest Blog In The World‘. I’ll refrain from further comments and let you enjoy reading it :)

[pingoo] Haan time pass to hai, but see how popular the site is! And I must admit, it is the way he describes the most pointless and mundane things, sometimes in such micro detail, that makes it so entertaining! :)

the dullest blog I think is more than interesting, its a brilliant cynical social satire..kinda like Diogenes of Sinope (post on oct 8 http://are.berkeley.edu/~atanu/blog/
….It is said that he sometimes walked around with a lamp even in broad daylight. When asked why, he replied, “I am looking for an honest man.” ). A real much ado about nuthing. Talking of honesty! I like their cartoons better!

Ooh, I do that, I do that! I did-ed that on your blog a long time ago (probably the third time I visited it). But I hadn’t taken the time to go through ALL of your posts. Until now. If you haven’t already noticed (what are the chances, staring at the stats all the time, as you do :P), that’s what I’m doing. I must say, although I thoroughly enjoy all your posts, some of your early posts are quite thoughtful, and one doesn’t see any of those nowadays… You’ve evolved, eh? ;)
