Heppi burrrday too yooou!

hum bhii agar bachche hote
naam hamaaraa hota Babloo Dabloo
khaane ko milte laddoo
Aur duniyaa kehtii heppi burrrday too yooou!

Yay! This blog turns two years old today. When this moment arrived last year, I did a whole lot of fanfare, made cutesy balloons, and gushed and gooed about how excited I was. This year however, I am trying a more detached, yeah whatever type approach. All this blogging business is just an illusion. There is no use in being happy or sad about it, I shall say, with my best Zen Buddha expression firmly in place. The internal gram-flour-balls-combined-with-sugar-syrup shall, of course, explode. But outwardly, I shall attempt to remain poised and exhibit much grace.

(Of course, you all should proceed to ignore the elegant poise bit, focus on the internal mithai-explosions instead, and leave generous gobs of comments full of wild merrymaking. You know how much of a glutton I am about those.)

This birthday thing also means that this blog is entering, what is optimistically called — the terrible twos. And while I don’t know too much about kids and the bundles-of-joyhood that they are, I have been around my niece enough to know some basics. For instance, this is when a kiddo’s vocabulary grows from twenty to three-hundred words. So, if I start sounding all precocious and pseudo-intellectual types, you know why. Also, a ‘yes’ means ‘no’, a ‘no’ means ‘I wish you would instantly combust’, and hissy fits are considered standard operating procedure. Hee hee! You can see where I am going with this, can’t you? Ooh ooh .. one last thing! Did you know two-year-olds are not fully potty-trained? Yes, ladies and gentlemen, lots of crap, with very little control over it. Whee! *dhinkichiki dhinkichiki* Heh, let’s pretend I never said the bit about poise.

Looking forward to a fun year ahead with y’all. Ta!

“The internal gram-flour-balls-combined-with-sugar-syrup shall, of course, explode.”
something very disturbing about that image. sounds like gastric trouble.
“lots of crap, with very little control over it.” seems to be a consequence.
ugh at myself for coming up with a crappy comment like that. What to do? I have a potty brain. In this case, literally.

Congratulations on sticking with your blog for two years. What I heard is that most people give up on it within the first year. It obviously helps that your blog is so popular.

No offence meant, because you do write well, but in the last two weeks I’ve found that intelligent women bloggers attract a much higher readership. Doesn’t that challenge some stereotypes while confirming others? Maybe it’s a good subject for a post.

I wish this year I will get to see the colorful pictures of the fancy-shmancy jersey-wearing cows along with a podcast of their Mooo’s.

Hmmm…I don’t know. Aren’t blogs more like dogs? You know, like one blog year is equal to 7 human years and all that jazz. This would mean your blog is at about the stage where you’ve managed to get it house-broken are now working on a) getting it do handshakes and b) trying to make it stop licking itself in public!

Happy Birthday anyway. I know this comment isn’t likely to give the Agarwal Sweets guys palpitations, but believe me, what you don’t hear in the background is the sound of one of my hands, clapping.

    Beep beep! Long comment ahead!

[Rumpy] Although I am not sure about blogging twenty years from now .. *gulp* .. I do intend to always keep this a happy place, full of nonsense :) And didn’t I mention? We are total cheapskates. This is a BYOB party :)

[Jenn] Thanks Jenn! For the vote of confidence despite the threats of crap :)

[Heh Heh] Brilliant. And ugh. Now see, I thought *I* had a potty-brain but not even I made *that* connection. Blech.

[Decamisado] Good to know :) And thank you!

[Senthil] Yesh, we love the dhinkichiki. Hee hee. Sadly, this medium restricts us to only typing it, but the actual dhinkichiki is accompanied by musical sounds, facial expressions and body-part movements. Um, on second thoughts, I am glad the medium restricts us :)

    [Prerona] Thankoo :)

[Tony] Another seventy eh? At that point, inspired from Bajaj, I can sing -

    Ab main bilkul boodhi hoon
    Goli khaakar jeeti hoon
Lekin aaj bhi comp pe baithoon .. *ting ting ting ting ting*
To likhne ko aata hai blog!
    :)

[Australopithecus] Party idhar-ich hai. Full with Switzerland ka cake and all .. *grin*

[Arti] Thank you! :) And welcome to the blog!

[Raj] When we said we are a glutton, we weren’t only referring to comments. So, if there are any laddoos in the picture, I will be the one eating them :)

[Arthur Quiller-Couch] Yes, I think the readers help keep a blog from dying, at least to an extent. Which is not to say that everyone writes for an audience alone. But surely, knowing that someone reads your writing, can sometimes inspire you to write more, if not necessarily write better. But then again I’ve known people who have given up blogging the moment they realized that their readership was growing, cos an audience made them self-conscious. Takes all kinds, I guess.

As for ‘intelligent women bloggers’ attracting a higher readership - I don’t think that is a fair assesment. Intelligent bloggers attract readership, period. Their being men or women is incidental to the picture, I think. But yes, it is surely enough fodder for a post in itself. Perhaps I should write it :) Glad to see you drop in!

[D] These are the clouds we are talking about, remember? We don’t buy plane tickets. We just float where we need to go :) And groan. You and your meg(h)a-puns are endless.

[gvenum] Thankoo thankoo :) And c’mon now. Pioneer-vioneer sounds too highfalutin and respectable. I haven’t been around long enough to make claims of boldly going where no blogger has gone before and what not. Hmm, a podcast about different cow sounds. Now that is an idea. And you hope it doesn’t spill over? Future tense and all? Boy, that’s some serious denial happening there :)

    [Minal] Thankoo! :)

[Falstaff] Hmm, I think my blog is at the point where -

    a) I don’t acknowledge its existence in polite company for fear of social ostracism.
    b) I am fond of it in a twisted sort of way, but I can’t quite figure out why.

Now that I think about it, that’s less like a dog, and more like some men I know. And thankoo. Half-a-laddoo has been eaten.

[Vasu] You sound like you have been bitten by the Himesh Reshammiya bug of rolling-Rs? Thankoo though! :)

[Dev] Thankoo! Yesh, I must admit it is a really nice feeling to see some of my early readers still around, a certain gramps included :)

[Sriram] Kangaroolations on a hoppy birthday, maybe? Ouch that was painful even by my standards. Thankoo :)

[shub] Lesser PJs. Heh. Such optimism :) Thankoo! Hope to continue with more of the same nonsense!

    [Paddy] Thankee!

[?!] Oldie songs and crappy jhankaar beats. A nice little merging of the old and new. Ahem, that’s what we are all about.

    [fonzter] Thanks!

[murugavel] Oh thank you! Glad you dropped in :)

[the One] Nice :) Was just getting ready to write the longest post known to mankind too! And thankoo :)

[tafosi] Hey looky who’s here! Glad to see you back on the blogging bandwagon. And not to worry, this kid has no intentions of growing up :)

[aNTi] Itna late aaoge to aur kya hoga? Switzerland ka cake hai, as I explained above. Thoda khaaya, thoda phenk diya! (And if you didn’t get that reference, pliss to tell, cos you are missing out on one of the great cinematic joys of life.)

[Greatbong] Yes yes, I can grandly take a full 20 minutes in my acceptance speech instead of the measly 1.5. Nobody rushes you off the stage by playing music. Something to look forward to, indeed.

[SternMsytic] Well, I am quite posessive about my blog, so it is a good thing that you are not ;) Am really glad you decided to make an exception and comment this time, though. Thank you for the blessings and the wishes, and I hope to continue with more of the same writing. And now that you’ve started a new tradition, I hope you stick to it and write in more often :) And vodka at a two-year old’s party? Interesting :)

[Fleiger] Yeah, sigh. Such are the times that two years already counts as old. And nopes, fortunately no one has tried. And if they know what’s good for them, they won’t :)

[Sagnik] Arre! My blog is doing another round of dhinkichiki dhinkichiki on seeing the return of one of its veteran commenters :) And of course you are invited. That’s what the post was all about!

    Lovely post as usual. :)

So this post will be going around wearing those mis-matched rubber bands then? :) Somehow I the only thing that comes to my mind when I think of two year olds is round chubby faces with those tiny pony-tails. [aNTi], [Vasu] I just thought of an alternative answer. The author of the blog claims to have multiple personalities. (17 in number, last I checked) So the blog should have as many personalities too, right? (unless of course, not all of her personalities blog)

So, given [aNTi]’s logic, we could make it a mix of maybe 9 little-girl blog-personalities, and 8little-boy blog-personalities. Hmm?

[Hariprasad] As I always say - a party isn’t over until the last guest arrives. So not to worry about showing up late :) And thank you for the musical wishes and welcome to the blog!

[witwisdumb] The advantage of coming late to the party is that everyone’s too drunk to notice what you are upto ;) Thankoo for the effusive wishes!

[aNTi] Arrey complain karo bhai, manaa kisne kiyaa hai. Complain karna is, as Lokmanya Tilak put it so succintly, your janm sidhha adhikaar. Just like refusing to let you eat birthday cake, is mine ;)

[Rajesh] Thankoo for the wishes and all. The blog says a huge thankoo too :) And see what you did? I stayed mum about the gender of the blog until now, but you went and stirred up a nice lil hornet’s nest. Oh well, response coming up below :)

[V] Thankoo :) And welcome to the blog!

[aNTi, Vasu, Rajesh] I notice that none of you have actually tried to ask me, the blog’s mommy, what the gender of my kid is? *raised eyebrow* Fine, discuss it and figure it out for yourself then! Hmpfh.

[Hiren] Aww, that’s very sweet :) I’ve suffered a lifetime of people pulling my cheeks, so I don’t take too kindly to it anymore, but hopefully my blog won’t mind you doing the same :) Thanks for the wishes and welcome to the blog. Do drop in again!

[Dev] LOL! Krishna-Sudhama-Rice Crispies - Trés brillanté! And aww, gramps got senti :)

[Manoj] Yes, very much so. That is exactly why this blog is called that. And since I was never about subtleties, I make regular references to my being a cloud in my writing as well as my design. Glad to see the reference wasn’t missed :)

[vrreddy] Thank you! And um .. KDAZ?

[Lak] Thankoo thankoo! Will write in another couple of days. Been crazily busy at work and hence haven’t found time to write :( Thanks for checking in regularly!

[TerritorialMale] It is a riot here almost all the time, so figured one didn’t need a separate party as such :) Thanks for the wishes!

[aNTi] I was hoping you wouldn’t complain about that :D

[Megha] Well, see, when the kid is born, it is generally the doctor who pronounces the gender of the baby, right? (I’ve not actually attended any births yet, so I wouldn’t know for sure, but that’s what it seems like in movies, if I understand correctly) But since we weren’t present at the birth of this kid (well I wasn’t, at any rate), and there is no sign of the doctor, we decided to take it upon ourselves to find out (or decide, if you object to find out). After all, how will the mom know if no one tells her?

[aNTi], [Vasu] Let’s compromise on 8 girly girls, 8 boyish boys, and 1 tomboyish girl?

[rja] I am wondering if the one tomboyish gal description would be right. Since I seem to have seen his blog wear twin braids somewhere and no self respecting tomboyish gal would allow that. But having said that, for the greater common good, I will agree that the statistical distribution that you have proposed would probably fit the profile of this MPD afflicted blog. However there is the small question of how we are going to figure out which one of these 17 claimants is the primary personality. But I propose that this honor, we shall bestow on the Mommy, since she seems to be standing there in the corner, raised eyebrow and all.

[aNTi] About the rubber-bands, that’s easily explained. Since the 17th personality is actually a girl, her mom dresses her up as one. And the poor kid is only two. So opinions about the length of her hair would probably be overridden by a tyrannical parent.

About the primary personality, though, I think you’re right. Let the mom speak now. (Or forever hold her peace? :D )

[Rajesh] Considering you were not present at the birth of this kid, wouldn’t it be safe to assume that whoever the doctor was who delivered the kid, actually shared the needful information with the mom? And so, rather than speculating, one could simply ask, no? Grr. Eight boys, eight girls and one tomboy, indeed. As Tiku Talsania said on Ye Jo Hai Zindagi - Yeeeesh! Ye kya ho raha hai!

And now finally, to put you, [aNTi] and [Vasu] (and anyone else who has wasted precious brain space on this issue) out of the misery of speculating - this blog is a girl. It has multiple personalities yes - a happy chirpy bunny sometimes, a silly monkey at other times, a little weird and sometimes not very human, but very much a girl. And bad bad [aNTi], for stereotyping little girls like that. You should have met my niece when she was two. The little terror that she was, forget two-year boys, she could make grown men cry. So there.

Phew. Matter finally settled. I can un-raise my eyebrow now.

[Suyog] Thankoo thankoo. Two years worth of nonsense. Scary, eh? :)

For the sake of humanity, I just hope none of these kids have 17 different personalities of their own.

[gvenum] Hee haw, that should be fun, no? :) Reminds me of the St Ives poem/riddle -

As I was going to St. Ives, I met a man with seven wives,
Each wife had seven sacks, each sack had seven cats,
    Each cat had seven kittens.
    Kittens, cats, sacks and wives,
How many were going to St. Ives?

Pretty simple answer, unless you choose to complicate it :)
