Have I ever mentioned that I totally and unconditionally adore Mel Brooks? There’s an episode of Mad About You where Paul and his cousin go to their Uncle Phil’s apartment to move a couch. (Grainy video. Bad sound. Totally worth watching!) Uncle Phil, the source of all Buchman family history, is played by the inimitable Mel Brooks. After the move, they discover a stack of old photos under the couch. Uncle Phil looks at a picture, and proclaims ‘Paulie on a pony!’ He then holds it up to his face and changes his mind and declares it is ‘France!’ Thrilled that the same picture can be multiple things, he moves it back and forth, announcing — Paulie on a pony! France! Paulie on a pony! France! Paulie on a pony! France! Romania! The last bit is when he moves the picture really far away. Priceless moment, it is.
Now for the photo. It had been raining all day. But when the sun announced that it wanted to set, the poor clouds were compelled to take a breather. They stayed gray and overcast, sulking. But we’re not done!, they whined. But the sun ignored them and shone through anyway. Too bad, it said, making it clear who was the boss. And just like that, the rain on my windowpane turned into little drops of molten gold, reflecting the last rays of the sun, as it vanished into the indigo blue of the horizon, on its way to embellish another window and intimidate another cloud.
There’s two things I love about this shot. One, that the sun is nowhere, except within the rain, which is a lovely bit of irony. And two, that the picture looks like a world of spiraling galaxies, mysterious planets and flaming meteors from afar, and yet, up close, imprisons the infinite sunshine within a few drops of rain.
Today, I have my own Paulie on a Pony! France! moment. Happiness comes.
Mm. Worlds within worlds indeed. Beautiful.

My initial reaction was, it looks like something from some semiconductor factory-with er..gold flecks on top? :)
PS- As i’ve commented before- can’t get enough of your site layout. Best blog in town is wat I call it!

I usually do these type of comparisons from real life to the screen life potrayed by characters.

Seriously though, you shouldn’t spill stuff on your carpet and claim it is a shot of the window. tsk tsk..
Oh and nice picture. Too bad I seem to take pictures of *ahem* scantily-clad women on beaches which somehow results in a nice cop saying hello to me. :(

I’m finally delurking to say that you have an awesome blog. It’s great to meet a fellow Gult who can talk about everything from NTR and Chiranjeevi to Mel Brooks.
Also, since you appear to be a living encyclopedia of old-ish Hindi movies, have you ever seen the movie Prem Shakti?
I figured that you’d have fun with a movie in which Puneet Issar plays a Duryodhan-like tantrik who knocks about an ichchadhaari naag played by Nitish Bharadwaj. Of course, it might just be my strange sense of humor.
In case you couldn’t tell, I’m a bit of a Mahabharat fan =)
Of course, I’m also a slightly odd Mahabharat fan, since I’ve hunted down many of the other movies that Mahabharat actors were in, and I have to say, some of them are kind of hilarious (such as Arjun-Devaa and Nache Nagin Gali Gali).

When I first looked at the photo, I thought it was some picture of a galaxy, esp the blue and amber strips that make it look like a galaxy.

Sure. Good photograph, comrade. But where’s the scope for throwing a few punches if you make your blog all too prim & proper? Despite the contrived France! Paulie on a Pony! epiphany, the bottomline remains ‘Not much to chew on.’ Well, that’s probably my France! Paulie on a Pony! moment - Nice photo! Bland blog!
See, you need to leave an opening so that the reader to take a crack at your blog. (Oh sure, I was just watching the Friends episode where Joey gets a chance to play Al Pacino’s ass.)

Lovely pic! Also thank you for bringing back memories of Mad About You. About the only serial I liked about married life. Most often things are too exaggerated in serials when they show married life. That series was able to capture some fine moments which made it seem almost real. Is there anyone who hates Mel Brooks?

I thought it was the pic of a solar panel of some space ship, which invaded your home. The aliens visiting ur home were trying to kidnap you to some “upper world” so that you will stop ( or may start another blog from outer space ) writing on this beautiful website which i visit regularly and laugh and smile and think deeply ? at/about/against ur posts…
